Fenerbahce defender Alexander Djiku has opened up on his club’s determination to win every match as Mourinho’s team prepares for their first competitive game of the season against Lugano in the UEFA Champions League qualifications.
The Turkish giants are set to face the Swiss side in the second round of the UEFA elite club competition on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. The match will take place at the Stockhorn Arena.
Djiku expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the highly anticipated clash, highlighting their objective to progress to the Champions League group stage this season.
“Lugano is a really good team. If we look at last season, they finished second in the league and they are a team that can score many goals. We are also looking forward to the match we will play tomorrow,” Djiku said at the pre-match press conference.
“We have played a lot of friendly matches so far and we feel very ready. We want to make a good start with the first official match we will play tomorrow. Whether we play at home or away, our aim is to win all our matches,” he added.
The game will also mark manager Jose Mourinho’s official debut with Fenerbahce, beginning the club’s European campaign for the season.
Djiku, a former Strasbourg star has been an integral member of the team since moving to Turkey last summer.
