Ghana’s female U20 national team [Black Princesses] were on Monday morning handed a 1-0 defeat in the hands of New Zealand in the ongoing U20 women’s world at the PNG Football Stadium.
The Ghanaian team started the game on a brilliant note as they gave their opponents a very tough first half game which ended goalless.
The game became a 50-50 battle back from recess with both teams struggling to pick a lead in the game.
Captain Diwura-Soale Wasila blasted away a glorious one on-one opportunity straight into the hands of the goalkeeper.
Sandra Owusu-Ansah could have scored for Ghana in the second half with a counter attack in the closing stages of the game but saw her shot inches wide the post until Christensen Tayla gave the winner.
The New Zealand team broke the deadlock with a heartbreaking goal in the 89th minute after Didi Dramani’s side had failed to hit the back of the net.
In other Group C match, USA drew 0-0 with France.
New Zealand now leads the group with 3 points after USA and France drew goalless earlier on Monday.
Ghana next game is against France on November 17 before wrapping up their group stage games with a fixture against USA four days later.
