Nigeria has finally gotten a permanent head coach after two months of searching. The Super Eagles finished second in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast. After the wonderful success, Jose Peseiro and the NFF could not reach any agreement on a new deal for Peseiro to further his stay and therefore mutually parted ways.

On Monday afternoon, the Nigeria Football Federation announced the appointment of former superstar George Finidi as the permanent head coach of Nigeria.

Finidi George, 53, is a former star for the Super Eagles who enjoyed a successful 11 years playing for Nigeria. He made 62 appearances between 1991 and 2002 and scored 6 goals. He was part of the Nigeria team that won the 1994 AFCON and also finished as runner-up in the CAN 2002 that Nigeria co-hosted with their rivals Ghana.

Finidi George is expected to qualify Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and also finish at least within the last 4 in the 2025 AFCON.
