Former Accra Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako turned down a big money move to numerous foreign clubs to join Ghana champions Accra Hearts of Oak SC.
The Black Stars midfielder was a transfer target for clubs around the continent but chose to join the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League winners.
According to the head of the player’s agency Club Consult, Yesif Alhassan Chibsah, the midfield gem had a lot of offers from abroad but chose to join the Rainbow Boys.
“Awako wanted to join Hearts of Oak. There were offers from foreign clubs [including Young Africans] for him but he had his own reasons.
“He has a baby who is less than a year old and he wanted to stay close to the family,” Chibsah said on Pure FM.
The 30-year-old Ghanaian versatile midfielder played 31 matches for the Blue and Whites outfit in the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season.
He was one of the best players in the competition and won the NASCO Player-Of-The-Month two times.
Awako joined the Rainbow club on a two-year deal from their rivals Olympics ahead of the 2021-22 CAF Champions League campaign.
