Former Ghana International Sam Johnson has advised Black Stars head coach Kwesi to forget about Russia 2018 World Cup and build a fearsome ‘’new team for the future especially the 2019 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
The Black Stars 2018 World Cup qualification was shattered on Friday after they failed to beat Congo despite Group E leaders Egypt losing 1-0 to Uganda.
He believes Ghana has no brilliant chances of sealing their fourth successive qualification hence the need to focus on rebuilding a formidable team for the next AFCON which will be held in Cameroon.
“I don’t know why people are afraid to say the truth that we don’t have a good team, the earlier we start building a new team the better. Johnson told Kumasi based Kapital Radio.
He indicated that some of the current Black Stars players form have declined and has for equally good players to replace them.
However, John feels it would be bad for the country to retire some of the experience players away since they will guide the young ones when blended together for the future.
The former Ghanaian international also rejected claims that Kwesi Appiah is technically bankrupt and that he is not in control of the team.
According to him Coach Kwesi Appiah needs Ghanaians support to enable him parade a good team for the future.
‘’Avram Grant came to destroy what Kwesi Appiah built and we need to give him time to rebuild the team again.’’
The Black Stars drew one all with Congo at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi and will face them in the reverse leg on Tuesday September 5 in Congo Brazzaville.
