Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Shadrack Addo has taken a major step in his career after joining Atletico Madrid on loan from Spanish side Trival Valderas until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Addo, who earned plaudits for his energy, work rate, and technical ability during his time with the Porcupine Warriors, had been without a club since mutually terminating his contract with Kotoko in June 2024.

His next destination had been the subject of intense speculation in recent months.

The midfielder was  spotted training with Hearts of Oak, sparking rumors that the Phobians were assessing his fitness and suitability ahead of a potential deal.

However, he later joined Spanish side Trival Valderas in the Segunda division.Remove ads

Before moving to Europe, the midfielder featured prominently in the Ghana Premier League, making 25 appearances and scoring once across two seasons for Asante Kotoko.

Addo’s move sees him join a growing list of Ghanaian players making a direct transition from the domestic scene to Spanish football, underlining the increasing recognition of local talent on the European stage.

The transfer represents a fresh start for the midfielder, who will now look to develop his game within Atlético Madrid’s renowned youth system, known for producing disciplined, tactically astute players.

As he begins this new chapter in Madrid, Addo will be eager to seize the opportunity and reignite his career on one of Europe’s biggest stages.
