Gerard Nus thinks Ghana’s inability to win the covetous AFCON trophy is attributed to so many factors and pressing issues.
Speaking to Sunyani-based Space FM, the former Ghana video analyst for Black Stars revealed that Ghana is on a long AFCON trophy drought not only because of money but other factors plays major role in Ghana’s failure.
“I don’t think money is the only one problem facing the national team when it comes to the inability to win the AFCON trophy”, he said.
According to the Spanish tactician, Ghana has previously come close to winning the ultimate but has been marginally unlucky in some occasions.
“In 2015 it was one penalty away from winning the ultimate and the margin distance between winning sometimes and finishing third and fourth and even second is very small”, he stated.
Nus, however, revealed that Ghana must prepare the minds of its players well for such tournaments and must basic requirements of training facilities to be able to triumph in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
“How have the motivations to the team being, how prepared are the players? All these contribute to the factors.”
“There must be adequate training facilities to help improve team’s performance and also players unflinching desire is key to success.”, he added.
Ghana are without an AFCON trophy since 1982 since they last won it in Libya in almost four decades.
Ghana have sealed qualification for the next year’s AFCON which will be hosted in Cameroon and has never been absent at the tournament since 2006.
