GFA President Kurt Okraku has confirmed that Ghana is on the brink of introducing Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology into its domestic football scene.
Addressing delegates at the 31st GFA Congress in Prampram on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Okraku acknowledged the hefty financial implications of the project but reaffirmed the association’s commitment to seeing it through.
“We are at the final stage of rolling out VAR in Ghana. It comes with higher costs, but it’s a direction we are determined to pursue,” he said.
The adoption of VAR is aimed at improving officiating standards, minimizing contentious decisions, and bringing greater fairness to competitions such as the Ghana Premier League.
This move forms part of the GFA’s wider agenda to modernize football administration and align the local game with global best practices, ensuring enhanced transparency and integrity on the field.
