The Black Stars are now out of the 2022 World Cup following their 2-0 defeat against Uruguay on Friday.

Andre Ayew missed a penalty early on before the Uruguayans scored two to send Ghana home.

Here are five talking points from the game.

A deserved exit for Ghana

Once again, Ghana have been knocked out of the group stages. The disappointment from the 2014 World Cup came up once again.

After beating South Korea on matchday two, Ghanaians had hope, but in the end, that hope led to disappointment.

The Black Stars players showed huge inexperience and little calm under pressure which ultimately led to the team’s downfall.

It’s now back to the drawing board.

Full rebuild mode starts from today

The tournament taught many a few things, and one of them is the need for a proper rebuild.

The team has a young core led by Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana, two players who impressed during the game.

There is a lot of potentials to explore. To make that potential a finished product, the younger players should be trusted more to shine.

Now that Otto Addo has left the job, the new coach has the chance to do so.

Time for Andre Ayew to leave Black Stars?

Yes, he is the captain and yes he is one of the most experienced players in the team.

He has come up clutch on several occasions for Ghana but today, he made a seemingly unforgivable mistake in the eyes of Ghanaians; missing that penalty.

Before that, his presence divided opinion in the eyes of many Ghanaians and now, his presence will divide even more opinions.

He has led, he has strived, he has done his job. It’s now time for him to give the younger ones a chance.

Kudus shines despite the pain

One of the bright lights from this disappointing defeat. Mohammed Kudus was everywhere.

He dribbled, he made the right passes, and he took the shots no one else wanted to take.

The Ajax man has the characteristics of a leader and a star man at the same time. That’s the perfect combination.

The next coach should mould the team around the 22-year-old.

Abdul Baba Rahman failed to make a case

Before the game began, many expected Gideon Mensah to start at left-back. Instead, Otto Addo chose Baba Rahman.

Abdul Baba Rahman has also divided opinions among the fanbase for many years due to his poor performances.

Today, he turned almost the whole of Ghana against him. The Reading man was poor throughout.

It might look a whole lot worse for him if he starts important games.
