Andre Ayew’s 30th minute goal made the difference as Ghana beat Uganda Tuesday afternoon in the opening fixture of Group D in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
It wasn’t a prettiest performance by the Black Stars but hard-fought attitude which saw Ghana earned all three points in the all important fixture.
Uganda pressed hard throughout the game but transformation of that to what was needed wasn’t worthwhile with the defense of the Black Stars team being resolute.
Sportsworldghana.com noted some key highlights of the intense encounter and takes you through with our major highlights we picked.
1. GYAN WILL BE A DECOY NO MATTER WHAT:
He may not score as Ghana’s main striker but his essence on the pitch when donned the Black Stars jersey is significant to the team as he will always be involved in a goal.
In the thick of events when the game was taking shape in the first half, the Ugandans had too much attention on Ghana’s captain Gyan rather than the Stars team in particular, with that Andre Ayew and Christian Atsu got more spaces to open distributions. Ugandans defensive side was left without any option than to bring Asamoah down in the penalty box after a through ball. A through pass which was not precarious had to be with that presence of Asamoah Gyan which resulted to a penalty for Ghana and Andre comfortably slotted it in to give Ghana the lead.
