The Black Stars of Ghana defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa by 1-0 to reach the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification series of the CAF Zone.
Andre Ayew scored the important goal from the spot in the 33rd minute after Daniel Amartey was brought down in the South Africa box.
1.Alexander Djiku brought stability at the back
The Strasbourg defender was suspended for the Ethiopia game last Thursday and his return to the starting line-up brought quality and stability at the back. Playing alongside Amartey, the pair did its defensive job with excellence as the team kept a clean sheet to advance to the next stage.
2.Andre Ayew delivered once again
A lot mouths were shut by the Qatar-based professional. In the against Ethiopia he was the one that got Ghana’s goal with a superb free-kick and on Sunday he was there again to deliver for the Black Stars this time around from the spot. 22 goals in 100 games for Ghana, Andre. Let that sink in.
3.Joseph Wollacott was outstanding
The Ghana Number 1 made several important saves throughout the crucial contest and many were in awe. Another top goalkeeping performance from Jojo.
4.Proven Wakaso Mubarak was a rock in midfield
Milovan Rajevack knew he cannot take chances and so started the proven Wakaso alongside Iddrisu Baba to solidify the midfield and the result was there for all to see. The former La Liga-based midfielder brought the needed steel to the Ghana game and he never went off throughout. Tackles, interceptions and protection. Wakaso did his job well.
5.Kamaldeen Sulemana is talented. But he has to keep on improving
There are no doubts regarding the talent of the Rennes winger. He’s got the potential to become one of the greatest African wingers in the game but his decision making during Ghana games is a suspect.
