Ghana sealed a semi final qualification in the ongoing African Cup of nations happening in Gabon after beating Dr Congo 2-1 in an end to end game on Sunday.
Goals from brothers, Jordan Ayew and Dede Ayew in 64th minute and 76 minute ensured Ghana’s victory over Dr Congo. Mpoku, 3 minutes after Ghana took the lead brought Dr Congo into a level terms but that didn’t last as Lumasalisa brought down Atsu in the penalty box to gift a penalty for the Ghanaians which Dede Ayew converted with ease.
HERE ARE OUR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GAME:
MBOKANI’S MISS: Dr Congo had the opportunity to grab a lead early in the game but got wasted by the top striker Mbokani after a cancerous mistake by the Ghanaian defense.
Harrison Afful’s header to his mate in the fifth minute of the game mistakenly landed before the feet of the Dr Congo attacker in the 18 yard box but his best he could do was to hit the ball on the goal post.
AYEW BROTHERS POWERS GHANA INTO SEMIS:
Their father, a former player, a legend of the sport, Abedi Ayew will be very proud of his boys. The brothers were lively on the pitch, apart from them scoring all goals for Ghana in the game, their performance was just a stand out.
3. BORING 1ST HALF PERFORMANCE BY BOTH:
The game was lighted up in second half which produced all three goals of the game. Ghana especially did not find their rythm as it was clear they were missing their most experienced player Asamoah Gyan.
4: JORDAN AYEW TAKES RESPONSIBILITY:
He left his critics having nothing to talk of in the game against Mali but this time an improved performance by the Aston Villa forward. He was at the receiving end of most Ghanaians lambasting him after Ghana’s opener against Uganda. Today in a game where Ghana played without Captain Asamoah Gyan, Jordan really stood forward, took every responsibility and ensured the needed is done.
5. GHANA DEFENSE, A SUSPECT:
The defense of the Black Stars has consistently shown how nervous they become when Ghana is in a lead. It took only 3 minutes for the Congolese to respond after Ghana took the lead. A bad organization of defense with an unfocused body language led to the Mpoku goal. With any sharp attack the Black Stars could be severely punished.
