Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan is most likely to miss Ghana’s quarterfinal clash against DR Congo on Sunday.
The attacker suffered what looks like a groin injury in Ghana’s final group game against Egypt on Wednesday.
Gyan could not last the stipulated time of the game and had to be replaced in the 37th minute by Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew.
The Al Ahli will today undergo a scan to know the level of damage.
“I felt a sharp pain after, I tried to continue but I couldn’t, for now I don’t know. I will go for a scan and the doctors will know the extent of the injury, but right now am in pain,” Gyan told the BBC.
Coach Avram Grant will need to find alternatives should he fail to recover on time for the game against DR Congo.
Youngster Ebenezer Assifuah and Schalke 04 striker Bernard Tekpetey who made his debut for the Black Stars in their final Group D fixture against Egypt are the possible choice for Coach Avram Grant.
