The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo has advised that the earnings of match officials of the game should not be the basis for poor performances in games.
Prosper Harrison Addo says match officials are expected to act as professionals in the discharging of their duties on the field even in the absence of their due payment.
He made the claim in response to recent allegations that match officials do not get their pay on time, which sometimes contributes to their poor performances in the field of play.
“It must not be taken that because a referee’s fee is a certain amount or has not been paid, then the referee is permitted to officiate badly. That excuse must be nipped in the bud,” he said during the forum organised by 3Sports in collaboration with the GFA on hooliganism.

“I’ve heard people complain on radio. There is nowhere in the world that you compare performance with payment. We don’t do that. You are a professional referee and you must officiate professionally.”
The FA’s secretary also stressed that case of the delay in the remuneration of match officials happens almost everywhere as it is in Ghana.
“Referees at the World Cup are paid after the tournament and same for CAF.”
