The Ghana Football Association is in talks with either Egypt or Sudan for a pre-2021 Africa Cup of Nations friendly, according to Ghana FA spokesperson Henry Asante.
According to the country’s football governing body, the Black Star will open camp in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 ahead of the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Cameroon.
The team will be in Doha for a period of three weeks to prepare for the Tournament scheduled for Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022. The team will play three international friendly matches in Qatar to give Coach Milovan Rajevac the opportunity to assess his squad for the Tournament.
The Ghanaian team will wrap up their test matches against African Champions Algeria on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
The Black Stars will depart Doha for Yaoundé on Friday, January 7, 2022 to take on the rest of Africa at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The four-time African champions will play African champions Algeria during their training camp in the gulf country.
“Black stars management committee are in talks with either Egypt or Sudan for a friendly game even though they have already arranged the Algeria friendly and black Stars provisional squad will be out by next week.” Asante Twum told Kumasi-based Light FM on Saturday.
The test match a form part of the preparations of the Black Stars ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations next month in Cameroon.
Algeria are currently unbeaten in their 33 matches in all competitions and clear favourites to defend their title when the tournament begins in January.
The last meeting between the Ghana and the Fennec Foxes was in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where Ghana won 1-0 in the end.
Legendary striker Asamoah Gyan scored the match-winner in the additional minutes of the match.
