Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori has expressed confidence in the club’s bid to remain afloat in the Absa Premiership this season.
The Ghanaian international believes Maritzburg United have what it takes to beat the drop despite rocking at the bottom of the league table with nine matches to go.
The former Wa All Stars’ shot stopper is enjoying fantastic moment in post for Maritzburg United after playing in all 21 league games for ‘the Team Of Choice’ this season where he has picked five man of the match awards.
The 25-year old Ghana No.1 has been heavily linked with a move to Orlando Pirates with former goalkeeper of the club Thabani Stemmer saying “Richard Ofori is a very good goalkeeper and is a Ghanaian international. I remember the last time I watched Ghana play he was in the posts for them. What I like about him is that he is also good with aerial balls. He is very vocal and is good at organising his defence.
“He is a good goalkeeper with a winning mentality. He doesn’t like it when he concedes. He becomes very angry when he concedes a goal,” he said.
Stemmer says he is convinced that the Black Stars goalkeeper would be able to replicate his fine form at the Soweto club should his deal from Maritzburg United be sealed eventually.
But speaking exclusively to SportsworldGhana.com on Tuesday, Ofori remained optimistic his side has what it takes to escape relegation and come back stronger next season.
‘’Our current situation is very worrying but I am sure we will not be relegated at the end of the season.’’ Said the Maritzburg United No.1.
He added ‘’We the playing body aren’t happy about our position on the league game and so we are working very hard to ensure we win most of the remaining matches and at the end maintain our spot in the league.
‘’The supporters have been so much supportive despite our bad form and we hope they continue with that to enable us achieve our target of avoiding relegation. We want to be in the league and make them happy come next season.
‘’It’s good that some clubs are interested in my services but for now I want to help the team to beat relegation afterwards we will see what will happen.’’
