Hearts of Oak have kept their Ghana Premier League title hopes firmly on course after grinding out a dramatic 1–0 victory over Hohoe United in stoppage time, a result that once again highlighted their strong mentality and defensive strength.
The narrow win away from home has lifted the Phobians to 31 points after 18 matches, placing them fifth on the league table. Their season so far has been built on a disciplined defence, the best in the league, with just seven goals conceded. While goals have been scarce at the other end — only 12 scored, the lowest in the competition — Hearts have shown they know how to protect leads and see out tight games.
The Accra-based side now turns attention to Friday’s home fixture against Dreams FC at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Hearts come into the game with confidence, having won their last three home matches without conceding a goal. Their recent record against Dreams FC at home also favours them, with only one dropped result in league meetings since 2020.
Dreams FC, under the guidance of Winfred Dormon, travel to Accra boosted by a commanding 3–0 win over Heart of Lions FC in their last outing. That victory was their third in five league games and has moved them up to ninth place with 23 points.
The “Still Believe” side has shown attacking promise this season but continues to struggle defensively, having conceded 20 goals in 18 matches. Their away form remains a major concern, with just one point picked up on the road after eight matches, suffering seven defeats and conceding 13 goals.
As both sides prepare for Friday’s encounter, Hearts of Oak will be aiming to extend their impressive home run, while Dreams FC will be desperate to finally turn their away fortunes around.
