Hearts of Oak poster boy Daniel Afriyie Barniel was voted Man of the Match following his splendid display in the Phonians 2-1 away win against Legon Cities on Thursday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Midfielder Ansah Botchway and striker Kwadwo Obeng junior scored a goal each in the first half to give the Phonians a crucial matchday 30 victory of the Royals.
The Caf U20 AFCON winner brilliantly set up Kwadwo Obeng junior to put the Phonians ahead before Ansah Botchway doubled the lead with a thunderous strike before half time.
Although Legon Cities FC will halve the deficit through a strike from Victorien Adje Adebayor in the 40th minute, Hearts of Oak held on in the second half to cruise to a 2-1 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
The win means that Samuel Boadu’s side have reclaimed the top spot with 56 points, same as Kotoko.
The Phonians are on top of the league standings by virtue of goal difference.
The Phonians will host Arch rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the Accra Sports in the epic week 31 Super Clash.
