The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League will resume on March 7, 2025, after nearly a month-long suspension, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed.
The league was temporarily halted following the tragic passing of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as ‘Nana Pooley.’ He lost his life during Kotoko’s Week 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC, an incident that deeply affected the football community.
“It’s definitely a very sad development and is currently in the hands of the police, who are still conducting investigations,” the GFA stated. “Clubs and players are eager for the return of the Ghanaian top-flight championship.”
Following an agreement by Asante Kotoko to resume competitive football after Pooley’s final funeral rites on Thursday, March 6, the Ghana Premier League will return with matchday 23 fixtures the next day and continue into the weekend.
Additionally, outstanding fixtures from matchdays 20, 21, and 22 have been rescheduled and will be played on March 18-20, April 1-3, and April 15-17, respectively.
