Eric Antwi delivered a brilliant brace in Tamale to hand Karela United a 2-0 victory over Hearts of Oak, deepening the Phobians’ recent struggles in the Ghana Premier League.
Karela, boosted by their strong performance in their last outing, started with confidence and took control early. Their effort paid off in the 18th minute when Antwi rose to meet a pinpoint cross from Fatew Mohammed, heading home the opener.
Hearts pressed for an equaliser, with Hamza Issah coming close, but his effort veered off target.
Just before halftime, Antwi struck again—this time capitalising on a goalkeeping mistake to tap in his second and give Karela a commanding lead at the break.
Hearts returned from the interval determined to fight back, creating chances but failing to convert. Issah once again threatened, but Karela’s disciplined defending kept the Phobians at bay.
Karela nearly added a third, but Philip Adom’s finish lacked power and was easily saved.
The win pushes Karela United to seventh on the league table with 20 points, just one point behind Hearts, who have now recorded only one win in their last five matches.
