Former Netherlands midfielder of Ghanaian parentage George Boateng has been promoted to Aston Villa U-23 as head coach after a year with the U-18’s.
The 45-year old gaffer has seen a massive rise in his coaching career after a solid stint with the U-18’s, despite a coronavirus disrupted season.
“The role is fantastic,” Boateng told Aston Villa TV.
“For me, I’m now making a step-up to working with players who are close to the first team, closer than the Under-18s.
“We are at the top end of the Academy, where players have to make the transition from being a youth player to a senior player. I want to help get them a career in the game.”
The former Middlesborough Hull City player will be working with Mark Delaney as Professional Development Coach.
Both are former players of the Aston Villa, and share 317 caps between them.
