English-born Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku will now work under new manager Peter Ostergaard Sørensen at Danish Superlig outfit Vejle Boldklub following the departure of Carit Falch.
Opoku, 22, who is currently on loan at Vejle Boldklub from Fulham, has played three goals so far for the club.
According to the club’s director Henrik Tønder, the choice of Peter Sørensen makes very good sense for Vejle Boldklub.
“Peter Sørensen is a skilled trainer who knows his craft and his craft. At the same time, Peter is a clear and distinct leader who ensures that everyone in a player squad knows what the task is for the group and what expectations there are for the individual through this. Through his work as a coach, Peter has always maintained a good and strong relationship with Vejle Boldklub, and we at Peter Sørensen have a basic understanding of what Vejle Boldklub is, builds on and must be developed for. The strong understanding and deep insight, we believe, gives our new head coach the opportunity to not only ensure our existence in Denmark’s best football league, but also over time to establish Vejle Boldklub in the 3F Superliga. That is why I am happy to be able to welcome Peter back to Nørreskoven, says director Henrik Tønder.
Peter Sørensen, a former Hobro manager is, however, very pleased to be offered the opportunity to coach Vejle Boldklub who currently sits bottom of the league standings with just a point after playing six matches so far this campaign.
“Vejle Boldklub has, as I also mentioned earlier, the greatest untapped potential in Danish football. That is my clear opinion. The fact that I, as head coach, am now allowed to work with and contribute to a development in a positive direction of the same potential, I see as a great opportunity. It is no secret that Vejle Boldklub means something to me. It is a club where I know and respect many key people in the club. That knowledge has also given me an ongoing insight into both the club, the new ownership and the potential that exists at the academy. Roughly speaking, I have been waiting 13 years for this job. Vejle Boldklub is a completely unique size. After all, the most important task right now in Vejle Boldklub is to take the obvious individual qualities that the team has and make it a strong and competitive collective.”
