Ghanaian centre-back Rufai Mohammed has committed his future to Allsvenskan side IF Elfsborg, signing a contract extension that runs through the 2029 season, the club has confirmed.
The 19-year-old defender joined Elfsborg in the spring of 2024 from Ghanaian side Inter Allies, after initially training with the club’s U19 squad the previous year. He was loaned to IFK Värnamo during the 2025 season, where he gained valuable first-team experience, making 2 appearances and scoring once in cup competitions.
Returning to Borås Arena, Mohammed’s progression and performances earned him the new long-term deal, warding off interest from potential suitors ahead of the 2026 Allsvenskan season.
“I am very happy! Last season in Värnamo gave me important experience in Allsvenskan. Now I’m ready to compete seriously for Elfsborg. I will work hard and prove that I deserve to be here,” Mohammed told the club’s official website.
Sporting director Stefan Andreasson praised the Ghanaian’s development and loyalty:
“Rufai made big steps in his first year with our A-squad. The loan to IFK Värnamo gave him the playing time he needed, and now he’s ready to compete at the highest level with us. We believe in his bright future and are rewarding his progress and loyalty with this extension through 2029.”
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Mohammed will be aiming to impress Ghana’s national team selectors while establishing himself as a key figure for Elfsborg this season.
