Ghanaian Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful featured for Columbus Crew in their first MLS match of the season in 1-1 stalemate against NY Red Bulls on Saturday.
The two players lasted full duration of the game but it was Afull who was booked on the 16th minute for exhibiting an unsporting behavior.
Romanian midfielder Andreas Ivan shot New York Red Bulls in front after
heading home Florian Valot’s cross in just six minutes into the game.
Gaston Sauro however, tied the game for Columbus Crew in the 41st minute to earn them a point in their season opener.
Sauro’s header redirected Federico Higuain’s corner for the first MLS goal in his four-season career.
Meanwhile their compatriot Lalas Abubakur was an unused substitute in the game.
