Black Stars defenders, Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful endured a humiliating defeat in the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday night against Mexican side Monterrey.
The Ghanaian duo’s team Columbus Crew SC suffered a big defeat in Mexico and exited the competition following their 3-0 mauling in the hands of the Blue and Whites.
Afful, 34, lasted 55 minutes of the match and was substituted and replaced by Abdul-Salam Saad.
Jonathan Mensah, who is the captain of the Yellow and Blacks played full throttle for his team but could do little to prevent them from succumbing to a 3-0 loss.
The Major League Soccer champions could not make it to the semi-final and the Ghanaian duo’s dream of winning the competition ends abruptly and must focus on the league to qualify for the next edition.
Mensah scored a goal in the competition and was named in the Team-Of-The-Week after the round of 16 games.
