Ghanaian attacker Bernard Morrison has helped his Tanzania’s Simba SC book qualification to the group stage of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The former Ashantigold SC striker has been been a standout performer for Simba SC this season and will play in the Group stage of the Caf inter-club competition.
Although Simba lost 2-1 away to Zambia’s Red Arrows FC on Sunday in second leg of the play-off, they qualified on a 4-2 goal aggregate.
Ricky Banda and Saddam Yussuf Phiri netted for the home side, while Haasan Dilunga pulled one back for Simba SC at the Heroes Stadium.
Pablo Franco, Simba SC’s new Spanish coach said he was pleased with the fighting spirit of his team. “The team fought back strongly after conceding two goals. We need to keep working hard ahead of the group stage of the competition,” added the coach.
Last season Simba SC reached the quarter final stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
CECAFA’s other representatives Tusker FC, Gor Mahia FC (Kenya) and Rwanda’s APR failed to progress to the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
APR lost 2-1 away to Morocco’s Berkane, while a 10-man Tusker team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sfaxien in Tunisia. Gor Mahia managed a 1-1 draw against Otoho d’oyo in Nairobi.
