Ghanaian forward Nathan Opoku has extended his stay at Leicester City, signing a new deal that will keep him at the Championship club until the end of the 2026/27 season, the Foxes confirmed on Thursday.
The 24-year-old striker, who joined Leicester in January 2023 from Ghanaian side FDM Field Masters Sporting Club, has continued his development through strategic loan moves in Europe. Opoku spent two separate loan stints at Belgian Pro League side OH Leuven, making 25 appearances and adapting to European football, before moving to England’s lower divisions this season.
Currently on loan at Newport County in EFL League Two, Opoku has made 23 league appearances, scoring five goals, including a recent strike in the Exiles’ 3-1 victory over Salford City. Newport County are managed by former Leicester defender Christian Fuchs, further strengthening Opoku’s connection with his parent club.
“The contract extension reflects Leicester’s belief in Nathan’s potential,” the club stated, emphasizing their commitment to his long-term development.
Opoku will now look to maintain his form at Newport County, gaining regular first-team experience as he aims to secure a future role in Leicester’s squad.
