Dutch-born goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro delivered a heroic performance as AZ Alkmaar secured a place in the KNVB Beker final, defeating Heracles Almelo on penalties after a hard-fought semifinal clash on Saturday night.
The 20-year-old shot-stopper, who is eligible to represent Ghana, played a decisive role in the shootout, making two crucial saves to help his side progress. Owusu-Oduro’s composure and reflexes under pressure ensured AZ edged past Heracles after the match ended in a stalemate.
His performance further cements his reputation as one of the brightest young goalkeepers in Dutch football, sparking discussions about his international future. Though he has represented the Netherlands at youth level, the Ghana Football Association could explore the possibility of securing his commitment to the Black Stars.
AZ Alkmaar will now prepare for the KNVB Beker final, where they will look to cap off their impressive cup run with silverware.
