Ghanaian midfielder Elvis Sakyi was in top form for Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva as picked a late 2-1 victory against third-place Ashdod in the Israeli Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Sakyi was solid in midfielder winning and distributing passes effortlessly as the home-side grabbed all three points at the HaMoshava Stadium.
The visitors took a 16th-minute lead through attacker Sagiv Yehezkel but Petah Tikva replied immediately through Armando Cooper from the spot.
Both sides went into the break with the scoreline at 1-1 but an improved performance from the host saw them grab a late winner in the second half.
Teenager Liel Abada scored the winner in injury time to take Meaccabi Petah Tikva to third place on the table.
Elvis Sakyi was making his 14th appearance of the season, having been a key member in the Petah Tikva squad.
