Dutch-born Ghanaian international Brian Brobbey has insisted his decision to leave Ajax Amsterdam to sign for RB Leipzig was not an ‘emotional’ one.
The 19-year-old made the move to the German outfits during the course of last season in a four-yea deal which will see him at Leipzig until at least the summer of 2025.
The forward also added that he had an idea the Dutch club were already planning to make a move for a striker in the summer transfer window.
Speaking in an interview with Bij Andy in de Auto, the teenager said: “It was not an emotional decision. I had the feeling Ajax would get another striker. I already knew it. But they promised me they wouldn’t. I also had to prove myself more than any other player. Always. I don’t know why.”
The player also left the door open for a possible return to Ajax despite not playing for the Die Roten Büllen’s yet.
“It’s no b*llshit Ajax wants me back. Whether I want this to happen? I just want to play, lets leave it at that. But Leipzig wants a big transfer fee. Ajax has the money, we need to leave it up to Marc [Overmars],” he concluded.
According to reports in the Netherlands media and the German papers, Ajax are keen on his return but the final decision would depend on the player as well as Leipzig.
