Spezia are on the verge of their first ever promotion into Serie A after securing a 1-0 first leg play-off victory away to Frosinone.
Ghanaian forward Emmanuel Gyasi’s first half strike was enough for Spezia to record an important away win against Frosinone on Sunday in the first leg of the Serie B promotion play-off final.
After a decisive Martin Erlic block on Federico Dionisi, it was Spezia who took the lead when Emanuel Gyasi gathered the Giulio Maggiore assist and turned to power past the goalkeeper in the 28th minute at the at the Stadio Stirpe in Frosinone.
Spezia finished third in the regular season on 61 points, after putting together 17 wins, 10 draws and 11 defeats.
They had lost the first leg of the play-off semi-final 2-0 to Chievo, but fought back for a 3-1 home victory.
Frosinone had a better chance of securing promotion but slipped down the standings in the final weeks of the season.
They ended up in the eighth and final place for the play-offs on 54 points, following 14 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses.
The second and decisive leg will be on Thursday, August 20 at the Picco in Spezia to determine who joins Benevento and Crotone in the Serie A for the 2020/21 campaign.
