Ghanaian midfielder Khalid Abdul Basit grabbed his first-ever brace for FC Sheriff Tiraspol on Wednesday as they recorded a commanding home win in the Moldovan Cup against Saxan Gagauz Yeri.
Basit scored twice with his compatriot Edmund Addo joining the scorers when Sheriff whitewashed Saxan Gagauz Yeri 6-0 in a round of 16 fixture of the competition.
Colombian midfielder Frank Castaneda scored first for Sheriff Tiraspol in the 12th minute.
Ivorian forward Nadrey Dago and Ghanaian forward Khalid Abdul Basit added their goals in the 22nd and 26th minutes to increase the advantage.
Addo scored the 4th goal on the stroke of halftime.
Another goal from Abdul Basit and one other from Maxim Cojocaru in the second half completed the massive victory for Sheriff.
The 25-year-old joined Sheriff Tiraspol in September this year after leaving Esperance on a free transfer. His current contract runs until 2024.
Basit began his notable professional career at Dreams FC before making a move abroad where he has stayed since then.
He is yet to play for the Black Stars but can do so if he is called up in the future.
