Andre Ayew has revealed that the strong Ghanaian connection at NAC Breda played a decisive role in his decision to join the Dutch club on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The former Ghana captain, who recently left French side Le Havre after featuring in Ligue 1, said he received interest from clubs across different parts of the world but felt most drawn to the project presented by NAC Breda.
Ayew explained that the club’s history, large fan base, and long-standing relationship with Ghanaian players influenced his choice. He pointed to past and present Ghanaian figures at the club, noting that their presence made the transition more appealing and familiar.
The 34-year-old also acknowledged the legacy of former Black Stars striker Matthew Amoah, who remains an iconic figure at the club and now plays an advisory role, helping to develop attacking players.
Ayew joins fellow Ghana internationals Kamal Sowah and Denis Odoi at NAC Breda, continuing the Ghanaian tradition at the club. He is expected to provide leadership and experience as NAC Breda battle to maintain their place in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The former Ghana skipper made his debut as a second-half substitute in a goalless draw away to FC Groningen and admitted he is still building up full match fitness. He expressed confidence that regular games and hard work will help him reach top condition soon.
NAC Breda currently sit just above the relegation zone and will rely on Ayew’s experience as they push to secure top-flight survival in the second half of the season.
