Ghanaian international Joseph Paintsil has missed out on the 2022/23 Ebony Shoe Award in Belgium.

The yearly award is given to the best player of African descent in the Belgian top flight.

This year had Joseph Paintsil from Ghana, El Khannouss from Morocco, Nigeria’s duo of Victor Boniface and Gift Orban who play for Union Saint Gilloise and Gent respectively as well as Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye who was born to a Rwandan mother and a Burundian father in Antwerp as the competitors.

Ndayishimiye who is a team mate of Paintsil at Genk has provided a record 23 assists and scored eight goals in 35 league games whereas the Ghanaian has 15 goals and 11 assists in 34 games.

Most of Paintsil’s goals and that of Genk former striker Paul Onuachu who left for Southampton in January 2023 were all assisted by the Rwandan offensive midfielder.
