Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjetey is setting his sights on UEFA Champions League football next season after playing a pivotal role in FC Basel’s domestic double triumph.
The 21-year-old helped the Swiss giants clinch their first league title in seven years, while also lifting the Swiss Cup—marking the first two major trophies of his professional career.
Adjetey, who had a limited role the previous season with just 11 league starts, saw a remarkable rise in influence during the 2024/25 campaign, making 32 appearances in the Swiss Super League and becoming a mainstay in Basel’s backline.
With the league title secured, FC Basel have qualified for the play-off round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League—a vital gateway to the competition’s group stages. For Adjetey, the opportunity to play on Europe’s grandest stage represents the fulfillment of a long-held ambition.
“It’s a great honour to even be close to playing in the Champions League,” Adjetey told Flashscore. “We will play the play-off, and I just pray we win. Then we can fit into the group phase.”
“I always watch the Champions League. To actually play in it would be a dream come true,” he added.
As FC Basel prepare for their European campaign, Adjetey will be hoping to continue his rise and showcase his talent on the biggest stage in club football.
