Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a pivotal first-half goal that propelled LA Galaxy to a decisive 3-0 victory over San José Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium on Saturday.
This victory marked Galaxy’s fourth consecutive win in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Paintsil, 26, found the back of the net in the 37th minute, capitalizing on a precise assist from Gabriel Pec. His goal gave Galaxy a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, setting the stage for a dominant second-half performance.
In the 72nd minute, Dejan Joveljic doubled Galaxy’s advantage with a powerful header, converting after Riqui Puig’s initial strike rattled the crossbar. The win was secured in stoppage time by Mauricio Cuevas, who scored his first MLS goal, sealing Galaxy’s commanding victory.
Throughout the match, Galaxy maintained offensive pressure, with seven shots on target compared to San José’s six. Goalkeeper John McCarthy was a standout, making six saves to ensure a clean sheet against a persistent Earthquakes side.
With this win, Galaxy remains tied for first place in the competitive Western Conference alongside LAFC, both teams boasting 40 points each. Real Salt Lake trails closely behind with 37 points.
Since joining from Genk, Paintsil has been instrumental for Galaxy, tallying six goals and four assists in 17 appearances this MLS season.
