Ghanaian forward Osei Barnes provided an assist in his debut game for Nea Salamis Famagusta in the Cypriot top-flight league on Monday evening.
Osei’s assist was not enough to save his side from losing 2-1 to AEK Larnaca in the opening day of the 2020/21 season at the Ammochostos Stadium.
The hosts went down after 38 minutes of action through Ivan Trickovski before Osei set Tomas Wagner up in the 62nd minute to pull parity for Nea Salamis.
After getting the equalizer, Nea Salamis started mounting pressure on the visitors in an attempt to score more goals but their efforts were not enough to get them additional goals as Abraham Gonzalez struck on the 68th-minute mark to snatch a vital away win for AEK Larnaca.
The 25-year old Ghanaian attacker who was booked on the 85th minute, joined the Cyprus-based club on a free transfer in the ongoing summer transfer window after ending his contract with Portuguese second-tier side Academica Coimbra.
He made 27 appearances in all competitions for Academica Coimbra, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
