The government is set to build an ultra-modern stadium to honour the young Ghanaian footballers who died through tragic accident, Sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah has disclosed.
The ghastly accident which involved African Vision Academy players occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
Sadly, 8 of the footballers lost their lives in the process.
On Thursday 1st October 2020, a mass burial has been organized for the deceased with several dignitaries attending to mourn with their families.
Speaking at the funeral, the sector minister Isaac Asiamah mentioned that the government will build a stadium to honour the footballers.
“The president of Ghana has sent me to tell you that, we will build an ultra-modern sports stadium in Offinso to honor the boys and we will dedicate one room in the stadium where pictures of the victims will be put there”, Isaac Asiamah said.
He added, “We want to remember them forever. We think this is the right thing to do for them. We think it is the perfect gift to remember them with”.
Meanwhile, the government has also set up a GHS100,000 trust fund for the victims.
