Ghana striker Raphael Dwamena has emerged an £8 million target for Premier League newcomers Brighton and Hove Albion.
The lanky 21-year-old scored 30 goals in 38 games last season for Austrian club Lustenau and Zurich, who were promoted back to the Super League.
He has scored twice for FC Zurich in three games in the ongoing Swiss Challenge League and appears to have caught the eye of Brighton coach and compatriot Chris Hughton.
According to Sky Sports Austria, Brighton’s pursuit of Dwamena as well as tricky Colombian left-winger Jose Izquierdo from Belgian club FC Brugge will continue the club’s recruitment pattern of exploiting the European market for better value than in England.
The Premier League newcomers shattered their transfer record on Monday with the £10 million signing of Dutch midfielder Davy Propper from PSV Eindhoven.
That eclipsed the £5.2 million paid in June for Valencia’s Australian international goalkeeper Mathew Ryan.
Brighton has also signed Pascal Gross and Marks Suttner signed from German club FC Ingolstadt while the only domestic newcomer remains Izzy Brown, on loan from Chelsea.
