Asante Kotoko maintained their position as league leaders of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League after Week 25 was completed over the weekend as rivals Hearts of Oak are closest challengers.
The Porcupine Warriors needed a late equalizer from influential defender Ismail Abdul Ganiyu to avoid defeat against Liberty Professionals in a game played at the WAFA stadium in Sogakope.
Former Kotoko player Evans Owusu shot the Scientific Soccer Lads in the lead on 41 minutes but Ganiyu would equalized in the 83rd minute to make sure his team continue to lead the pack with 45 points.
Meanwhile the Phobians struggled to beat 10-man Elmina Sharks later on Sunday night as Victor Aidoo missed another penalty but the team of Samuel Boadu found the breakthrough from the hour mark as Isaac Mensah and Afutu Benjamin scored to take Hearts of Oak to second place on the league standings on 43 points – two more adrift leaders Kotoko.
