Ashanti Gold SC moved out of the relegation with with a 1-0 win over Liberty Professionals on Match Day 7 of the Ghana Premier League at the Len Clay Stadium on Wednesday.
A 12th minute goal from striker Amos Addai ensured that the Miners recorded a first win in four matches and in the process, denied Liberty of a first away win of the campaign.
Under-Pressure head coach, Bashiru Hayford made six changes to the side that lost 4-2 at home to Bechem United last Sunday at the same venue.
And his changes showed signs of paying off very early in the game with Ashgold coming close to scoring on three occasions in the opening five minutes of the game.
While persistently mounting pressure on Liberty, the Dansoman based side also managed to hit them on the break which made the match an entertaining one all afternoon.
But it was the home side who scored what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 12th minute when Liberty failed to clear their line following an Ashgold corner.
Striker Amos Addai applied an instinctive finish to a Tijani Joshua knock down after the Liberty defense switched off.
Liberty tried to rally immediately but goal keeper Apronti was in top form denying Emmanuel Sarpong and Bernard Arthur on several occasions.
The second half begun on a relatively slower note with chances coming few and far between.
The travelling side gradually grew in confidence with the passage of time but failed to equalize as the referee eventually brought proceedings to a close.
