Asante Kotoko finally broke a 15-year winless streak against Berekum Chelsea with a dramatic 1-0 victory at the Golden City Park. Albert Amoah sealed the win in the 80th minute, giving the Porcupine Warriors a perfect start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Defending champions Bibiani GoldStars also began their title defence strongly, edging Bechem United 2-1 at the Dun’s Park. Kumi Attah netted twice, and though Darlvin Yeboah briefly levelled for the visitors, the champions held on for all three points.

The weekend opened on Friday with Hearts of Oak held to a frustrating goalless draw by newly promoted Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium. Hohoe finished the match with ten men but held their ground to deny the Phobians a winning start.

Sunday produced more excitement as Nations FC fought back to beat Swedru All Blacks 2-1 at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Kweku Baffoe put the visitors ahead early, but Samuel Tetteh and Emmanuel Annor turned the game around in the second half.

In Kpando, Heart of Lions edged Dreams FC 1-0, thanks to a 26th-minute penalty converted by Ebenezer Abban. Basake Holy Stars and Eleven Wonders played out a goalless stalemate at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

There was a major upset in Dormaa, where Karela United stunned Aduana FC 1-0 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium through an early strike from Malik Abubakar. At the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex, Vision FC, despite being reduced to ten men, held FC Samartex to a resilient goalless draw.

Meanwhile in Sunyani, Young Apostles suffered a tough Premier League game, losing 2-0 to Medeama SC with goals from Emmanuel Owusu and Paul Yeboah.

The opening weekend has set the tone for an action-packed season, with fans across the country already looking forward to the next round of thrilling fixtures.
