Aside Hearts and Kotoko hostility which is the greatest in the Ghanaian football calendar, there is no other derby in the country which comes close to Hearts of Oak and Great Olympic encounters.
Whether official or unofficial, it always has it momentous characteristics. The reason is simple, it is fight to determine who the right custodians of the City is.
People would want to say the fixture has lost it worth, an argument which is in a good taste. Whatever be the case, Accra sports stadium has been promised yet another thrilling Hearts-Great Olympics derby.
None of the two side is leaving no stone unturned as they hope to better their standings on the league table.
Unfortunately enough, Olympics has not won a single game in the five matches honoured so far.
The best they have chalked is settling for draws. Godwin Attram and his charges do not want to be seen as the last team after this fixture hence all effort are in place to welcome their first victory of the season against Hearts of Oak
“It is very unfortunate we couldn’t beat WAFA, we did our possible best to get the three points but it failed, we are going back to the drawing board, vary our tactics and make the most out of the Hearts of Oak game”. Those were the words of Godwin Attram after their 1-1 draw against WAFA last weekend.
If it is going bad for Olympics, city rivals Hearts of Oak is also not left out of the blushes.
The Phobians are having a tough moment. The only win they managed was against WA All Star fortnight ago. Preceding the All Stars’ victory was three draws and painful defeat to Aduana Stars in Dormaa last Sunday.
It is with undesirable outcomes that Frank Nuttal and boys have been sending warnings to their rest of their remaining contenders.
“The results have not been good and we must win all our next three matches starting with Great Olympics”. Hearts midfielder Malik Akowuah speaking after their defeat to Aduana Stars.
This is why Accra sports stadium will present another fascinating picture. Olympics are wounded going into this tie and defeat will not be good for the returnee. Hearts of Oak cannot afford to slumber either. Your guess is as good as mine.
Elsewhere in the northern region comes David and Goliath duel. Bolga Stars will pick their strength against a very determined Kotoko who have picked a maximum of 13 points from a possible 15.
Apart from Aduana Stars who’s for their free scoring ability are ahead, the 2014 winners are well-paced in the 2016/17 season.
With the exception of the victory Bolga Stars had against Olympics, they have been at the receiving end of goals catapulting their 15th position, a point adrift of Olympics. If the debutants hope of positive result against a resilient Kotoko, they need to dig deep and play above themselves.
Football always presents surprises but Bolga star will have to be extra careful if they want to avoid massive whipping.
