Partey’s move to Arsenal was the biggest news in today’s transfer deadline as so many people did not anticipate Arsenal could meet his release clause.
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, after activating the player’s £45 million transfer release clause.
On Monday the Premier League club finally agreed to pay the £45 million fee and the 27-year-old and his medical took place in the Spanish capital.
The 27-year old midfielder jewel £250,000-a-week at Arsenal after signing a five-year deal.
The deal is done and he has joined his new club. Athletico announced on their official website that Arsenal representatives have paid his release clause at the sports associations headquarters and they’ve finally terminated his contract. Partey is believed to be the man to bolster Arsenal’s midfield this summer as his performance in his former team was outstanding.
Here are what the pundits said concerning this deal:
Harry Redknapp on Sky Sports News:
“Party will strengthen Gunners. Coming from Atletico Madrid, Thomas Partey sounds like a good signing. Arsenal are definitely improving; they’ve got a couple of great forwards and have some good kids coming through. Along with Spurs, Arsenal look like they could have a real good season and Partey will certainly strengthen them up.”
Paul Merson, former Arsenal player and Pundit
45 M pounds for Partey – I nearly fell off my chair because I don’t think that’s a lot of money for a top-quality player. He is very disciplined and not a midfield player that goes running around.
The pundits clearly rate the Ghana international highly after his fine impact at Atletico Madrid, where he will no doubt have benefited from the strict tactical organisation of Diego Simeone. Here is his stats for 2019/20 – La Liga (picture attached below)
We wish Partey the best of luck.
