Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablah Akonnor, has backed the idea of building the Ghanaian national team around the talented West Ham forward, Mohammed Kudus.
Akonnor, who spoke to Citi Sports, acknowledged the player’s significant contributions to Ghana’s soccer profile but emphasized that the final decision should rest with the current head coach, Otto Addo. Former Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan, has previously also backed the call for the team to be built around the West Ham midfielder.
“He is our star we can’t argue about it he is our star he is the person making waves for us as far as Ghana soccer or Ghana is concern he is the one making the name for us,” Akonnor said. “So there is nothing wrong with that however it is up to the coach to know exactly what to do he is a good player young chap who has developed from the youth to this level so we should be happy to have someone like him.”
Mohammed Kudus, who currently plays as a midfielder for West Ham United, featured in Ghana’s recent victories. He played in the team’s wins against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The former Ajax player has been lauded for his impressive performance in the Premier League this season.
