Benjamin Afutu Kotey of Accra Hearts of Oak SC has gradually become the master of headed goals in the country during the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League and FA CUP Competition respectively.
The strong and energetic midfield-maestro, Afutu has scored more goals with his head this campaign and leads the list of goals scored by the head by any player on the domestic scene.
After shaking off a poor start to the season, the midfield-gem has not left any stone blocking his shine unturned with a constant and consistent level of play in the league for the Phobians.
He has been one of the most improved and important figures at the club with a commanding display in the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season and MTN FA CUP Competition.
Afutu is one of the best players not just at Hearts of Oak SC but on the domestic scene in general today, due to his hard tackling and areal prowess shown on countless occasions in the league and FA Cup tournament.
The 25-year-old midfielder scored five League goals for the Rainbow Boys, helping them to lift the covetous Ghana Premier League trophy for the first time in 12 years, with the Phobians last success coming in 2009.
Out of the five goals scored in the league by the former Karela United FC man, four were scored with his head and scoring only once with his foot.
Afutu has also scored goals in the MTN FA Cup Competition for his team who are into the final of this year’s edition and will face Obuasi Ashantigold SC in the final on Sunday, August 8.
In the semi-final of the competition, the ‘headmaster’ did it again by netting the opener of the match with a powerful header following a neat cross from the right side of attack by youngster Isaac Mensah.
With that, the Hearts of Oak midfielder took his total tally of goals scored with his head to six, making him the player with the most headed goals in the 2020-21 season.
He was close to leaving the club this season but chose to stay at the club at least till the end of the season and has become one of the most important and unsung hero of the Phobians league glory.
Afutu will get a chance to make it seven goals scored with the head this season in the final on Sunday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium as the Phobians aim for a second trophy this season to complete the double when they square off against the flying Miners.
In all competitions, Benjamin Afutu Kotey has bagged seven (7)goals for his team Accra Hearts of Oak SC and has certainly cemented his position in the team’s first 11 going into the CAF Champions League competition.
