Hearts of Oak defeated arch rivals Asante Kotoko by 1-0 at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday during Week 31 of the Ghana Premier League thanks to a solitary goal of Daniel Afriyie Barnie.
Barnie – who failed a trial at Kotoko seasons ago – scored in the 66th minute to win the biggest game of the season for his side.
The Phobians now lead the league table with 59 points – three more than the Porcupine Warriors who are still at the second place.
Here are five key things we at SPORTSWorldGhana.com noted from this big game.
1.Daniel Afriyie Barnie proves a big point
The striker – who failed a trial at Asante Kotoko seasons ago – proved why he is one of the most in-form players of the Ghana Premier League as he provided the most decisive moment of the game of the season by that 66th minute goal.
2.Hearts of Oak are the best football team in the league this season
The Phobians were better than their opponents today. Undefeated in their last 11 games across all competitions. 10 wins, 1 draw. 21 goals scored. Simply the best football team in the country now.
3.Fatawu Mohammed shines as captain
Leader by example. Fatawu was everywhere for Hearts of Oak. He skippered his side to beat rivals Kotoko and was one of the best performers of the match.
He was voted the official man of the match which is welld deserved.
4.Kotoko evidently missed Kwame Opoku
The goals of Opoku and his attacking presence was missed big time against the Hearts of Oak of Samuel Boadu. He scored 7 goals in 16 games of the first round before he was sold to USM Alger.
5.The league title is done and dusted for Hearts of Oak
Make no mistakes, Hearts of Oak are definitely winning this league title – a first for them since 2008/09. It is hard to see the league title outside the club of Togbe Afede XIV.
