The Asante Kotoko bus driver Nana Berchie who was behind the steer when the Kotoko team bus got involved in a road accident in 2017 says he is now incapacitated due to the accident and old age and is calling on the club to help him turn things around.
“Due to what happened I am struggling financially. My wife has gone bankrupt now because she has spent all he resources looking after me. She has gone broke and now it is big burden on me.” Nana Berchie lamented as reported by Otec FM.
“I am pleading with Kotoko to help me. I am aging also. I’m not getting any younger so I am pleading with them to help me turn my life around” the sorrowful driver pleaded with Kotoko to come to his aid.
The team then coached by Steven Polack were returning from a Ghana Premier League game at Inter Allies in Tema on 12 July 2017 and collided with a mini truck near Nkawkaw . The accident claimed the life of the deputy equipment officer of Kotoko Kofi Asare few hours after he was taken to a nearby hospital.
Ghanaians received the news with shock and showed some great sympathy as several personalities and institutions donated various amounts of money to the club during that difficult moment.
Meanwhile some players and other officials of Kotoko who were on the team bus – some of which have left the club – and suffered injuries have consistently registered their displeasure publicly over the club’s failure to financially compensate them and this latest cry for help from the chauffeur is everything but good.
