Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad has expressed strong belief that the Black Stars will make both themselves and the nation proud at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will appear in the tournament, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, aiming to improve on past disappointments. After failing to progress beyond the group stage in 2014 (Brazil) and 2022 (Qatar), Danlad—who was part of the squad in Qatar—believes the current crop of players is capable of making history.
“Every qualified team has the potential to make history, and Ghana is no different,” Danlad told 3Sports. “The team just needs our support, prayers, and encouragement for every player who earns a spot in the final squad. I am very confident that the team will make both Ghana and themselves proud.”
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude group play against Croatia on June 27.
Ghana will base themselves at Bryant University in the United States, preparing for a tournament where they hope to break the cycle of early exits and make a deep run. Danlad’s confidence reflects the optimism surrounding the squad as the team sets its sights on a strong showing on the global stage.
