Fifteen-year-old Matthew Amoah Jr. has become the latest youngster to make the step up to professional football, signing a contract with Dutch giants Feyenoord.
The talented attacker has been with the Feyenoord Academy since his early youth and is thrilled to have achieved this milestone.
“I am super proud to have signed my first contract with Feyenoord,” Amoah Jr. exclaimed. “I have been playing for the club since the youngest youth and have worked towards this wonderful moment all these years. Next season I want to take the next step in my development and I hope to be important for my team again by giving assists and scoring goals.”
Amoah Jr. began his football journey with amateur club Baronie in Breda before joining Feyenoord’s renowned academy. He has quickly made a name for himself, progressing through the ranks and earning recognition as the Academy Player of the Month in April. The young striker will join Feyenoord’s Under 17 team following the summer break.
Amoah Jr.’s achievement is made even more special given his family ties to football. His father, former Ghana international Matthew Amoah, was a prolific goal-scorer who played for clubs like Vitesse and NAC Breda in the Netherlands.
Amoah Sr.’s goal-scoring exploits were instrumental in Ghana’s qualification for their maiden World Cup appearance in 2006.
